Thiruvallam Backwaters

One of the favorite excursions of most tourists who visit Kerala is a pleasure trip on the Thiruvallam backwaters located not very far Thiruvallam Backwaters, away from Kovalam, the beach paradise near Thiruvananthapuram. Location

This popular backwater destination is located about 8 km from Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala.

The region is connected to the rest of the world via the international airport at the State capital in Thiruvananthapuram. Thiruvallam is also well-connected in terms of rail links and roadways available at Thiruvananthapuram city.

The place is situated at the confluence of the two rivers, Killi and Karamana which feed theParashurama Temple- Thiruvallam backwaters.These river banksenhance the natural beauty of Thiruvallam. A historic Parashurama temple is also located in this place. Many pilgrims visit this famous temple to pay homage to their ancestors.

Parashurama Temple
The main tourist attraction apart from the backwater tour itself is a temple devoted to Parashurama. Legend has it that it was Sage Parashurama who had created Kerala out of the landmass that had so far been submerged under the sea. People from all over the State come here to pay their regards to the founder of the State.

Veli Tourist Village
Veli Tourist VillageAnother famed attraction for tourists undertaking a tour down the Thiruvallam Backwaters is the Veli Tourist Village. This exclusive picnic spot, a favorite of those visiting the region, lies between the Veli Lagoon and the Arabian Sea which are separated by a narrow strip of land. It is at a distance of 8 kms from the capital city, Thiruvananthapuram. Veli Tourist Village offers the vacationers a variety of water sports to indulge in and its major attraction is an 18 acre park by the waterside. What is spectacular is that a floating bridge links Veli and the nearby seashore.

Akulam Boat Club
The Akulam Boat Club, also just 8 kms away from Thiruvananthapuram, is another famed tourist attraction. The Club provides boating cruises on the nearby Akulam Lake. A boat ride from here to the Karamana River will cost approximately Rs. 300 (to and fro). It also houses an amusement park and a swimming pool for children. There are also arrangements for enjoying water sports while you are on a trip to the backwaters of Thiruvallam near Kovalam. Tourists often visit this Club to picnic with friends and family.

Pozhikara Beach
The Pozhikara Beach is a nearby haunt beloved by tourists. The Karamana and Parvathy Puthanaar Rivers empty into the ArabianPozhikara Beach Sea at this spot.

Brilliantly coloured flowers striking in variety and beauty, the dense green foliage, the natural vegetation, the exotic water birds and other flora and fauna make your tour on the Thiruvallam Backwaters an unending bag of pleasant surprises.
